Jazz Finland Live

New York based artist Ka Baird travels to Helsinki for a one of a kind 5-day residency, which is set to yield unexpected new music each time – and different each time. Sami Pekkola might be familiar to We Jazz followers from Oaagaada, the mysterious quartet which sometimes appears, only to disappear again.

The ninth edition of We Jazz Festival takes over Helsinki 27 November to 4 December, and the event visits G Livelab with a release gig double header as Designers and Lampen celebrate their new albums on We Jazz Records. Designers is a fresh trio bringing together Belgian bassist Joachim Florent, Australian drummer Will Guthrie and Finnish pianist Aki Rissanen. Florent's compositions for the trio are inspired by geometry and architecture, in particular Filip Dujardin's "Impossible Architecture" series. Their music flows effortlessly, feeding off of the three visionary musicians' combined ideas executed in beautiful togetherness.

Lampen is a duo of Berlin based Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima and Tatu Rönkkö (of Efterklang). Thir debut album Lampen presents two artists who have a knack at making music which opens up with each listen, pulling you deeper and deeper. Meditative passages flow by slowly as in a peaceful river stream, erupting into full rapids of sound when the time is right. This is sonic rafting for the curious listener.
