Hugh Masekela's World Tour 2014 brings the world-renowned trumpeter, fluegelhorn player, singer, composer and bandleader to Tampere this October. Masekela, 75, wrote his best-known song "Bring Him Back Home" in 1987, when the first president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, had been imprisoned for 25 years. The song soon became the liberation anthem not only of Mandela but of the whole of the nation.
Masekela a living legend himself, has collaborated with such greats as Miriam Makeba, Louis Armstrong, Marvin Gaye, Paul Simon and Fela Kuti and strongly keeps their tradition alive. His chart-topping hit "Grazing In The Grass" from 1968 demonstrates that he has the talent of making music that is ambitious but appealing worldwide.
