Jazz Finland Live

There is no wall between jazz and contemporary music but a crack, an open space, which activates the imagination and enables spontaneous creation. This applies to the composer and the artist alike. When the musician improvises, on his own or as part of an ensemble, he follows the map, the structure created by the composer, making decisions in a fraction of a second. Decisions pertaining to notes, time, whether to take the soloist's role or to perform as only one component in the whole, intensity, that one note at that particural moment... All this and reacting to one another. When concentration is stretched to its full length there is only the now and the music.
