Dynamic and spontaneous jazz vocalist Vivian Buczek performs with an unaffected air of self-assurance, irrespective of what she chooses to sing, and always is one with the music. Her roots are in Poland and is now highly acknowledged singer both in Sweden and abroad. Vivian Buczek European Jazz Quartet is a brand new collaboration between Vivian, her Swedish piano player and arranger Martin Sjöstedt and musicians from all over Europe. This time they’ll perform together with one of the foremost drummers in Finland Jukkis Uotila and the high acknowledged Estonian bass player Heikko Remmel. The quartet creates an exciting and curious jazz experience with ingenious bold and imaginative arrangements written by one of the best arrangers and musicians in Sweden, Martin Sjöstedt. How are the rehearsals of a professional big band like? What kind of final touch-ups are made to the programme before the premiere?

Pianist & composer Seppo Kantonen has written a series of compositions for his beloved wind instrument players and colleagues at UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra – welcome to UMO Helsinki´s rehearsal hall at Cable Factory to hear how the program is fine-tuned! As the rehearsals are kept as authentic as possible, certain parts and passages may be honed a number of times. A conductor will also be present at the rehearsals, directing the orchestra toward the desired sound.

Free admission. We can guarantee entry and seat for the first 60 people. We recommend using earplugs at the rehearsal. Duration of the rehearsal is approximately 1,5 hours.

Juhani Aaltonen - Arild Andersen Re-Union Trio

Legends of Nordic jazz, sax man Juhani Aaltonen and bassist Arild Andersen play together for the first time in nearly 40 years. The maestros perform mostly new music, but we might also hear a few treats from the old days. The trio is completed by emerging drummer Ilmari Heikinheimo, who continues to advance the Finnish free jazz legacy and musical language first heard on record on the classic album Nana (1970) featuring Aaltonen, Andersen and Edward Vesala.

Alder Ego is the debut album of the 2014 quartet led by drummerJoonas Leppänen. The quartet – Leppänen on drums, Tomi Nikku on trumpet, Jarno Tikka on tenor sax and Teemu Åkerblom on bass – continued to charm their audiences with their folk-nuanced, melodic jazz until year 2018, when they were picked up by We Jazz Records. The Helsinki-based label releases a small number of cutting edge jazz albums, and Alder Ego's sophomore II is one of them. II is described to "follow the “harmolodics” approach of Ornette Coleman" (Peter Slavid, London Jazz News) and it is indeed, operating without a harmony instrument. Rich in melody, surprises and layers, Alder Ego is chamber music played by a jazz quartet.

All the musicians repreent the new generation of creative jazzers: drummer-composer Joonas Leppänen is known from his cool jazz ensemble Big Blue, Jarno Tikka plays in OK:KO, Tomi Nikku and Teemu Åkerblom in Maxxxtet. Åkerblom is replaced on this tour by bassist Nate Francis, who studies in Sibelius Academy.
