Jyväskylä Big Band's Ensikäsityksiä 17 premiere concert will take place in Siltasali and open the band's autumn 2020 season on Sunday 27 September. Sixteen compositions by talented pianists and composers have been commissioned for the 17th part of the premiere series. Among the composers are several alumni of Gradia and the Music Campus, who have set out to create international careers. Each composer also arrives at the concert to perform their own composition, so a total of six piano soloists will be heard at the concert.

The compositions of the concert have been commissioned from Arttu Ahovaara, Aurora Hentunen, Aaro Laitinen, Antti Lähdesmäki, Panu Korhonen and Tuomas J. Turunen.

Jyväskylä Big Band has become known as a promoter of new Finnish music. JBB has been collaborating with Finnish composers since 1998, and the Ensikäsityksijä concert series is an excellent example of a successful collaboration. JBB performs in Finland and internationally, and many of the band's musicians have become top names in Finland. Conductor Ilkka Mäkitalo has been the orchestra's conductor and artistic director since 1995.
