Janne Huttunen, who received his basic education at the Kerava Music Institute, is a versatile music creator without genre boundaries. His artistic touch can be seen in various productions in both popular music and jazz as a composer, musician and producer. His creativity shines brightest in jazz music, both as a composer and a saxophonist.

At Kerava Jazz Festival, Huttunen has been the driving force behind the Kerava All Stars band on a couple of occasions, as well as leading his own quartet during the debut album Janne Was Here in 2017. This year's festival performance also revolves around his new album. Released in May, Two Shadows of You consists of compositions born during the pandemic. The album is filled with irresistibly groovy and stylish jazz music, where captivating and masterful playing is complemented by memorable compositions, melodic hooks, and evocative soundscapes.

If there was a vote for the "most famous person from Kerava," Pena Lahti would be the number one! And not without reason, everyone knows Pena - especially in music circles. Pena is truly a "living legend”.

His significant musical achievements are still well-remembered: he has been a long-time saxophonist for UMO Jazz Orchestra, performed frequently with Eero Hämeenniemi's Nada ensemble at festivals, led his own projects like Pena Club and Baranbaran, played with Maarit's band, Kirka's band, Olavi Virta's band, and so on. Pena has had a long and illustrious career and continues to do more!

David Sanborn is among Pena's favorite saxophonists. Sanborn's trademark is the powerful, bright, and clean sound of his alto saxophone, with clear articulation in his playing. Pena masters all of these aspects along with many other playing styles. Expect some incredible jazz, funk, and R&B from Pena's performance at Aurinkomäki!

Mirja Mäkelä, after becoming the first vocalist to graduate with a master's degree from the jazz department of the Sibelius Academy in 1999, has built an impressive career as a singer, composer, jazz vocal teacher, and music school principal. Even before her graduation, Mäkelä sang as a young soloist for UMO in the spring of 1993 and immediately won the Lady Summertime competition for jazz singers the following year.

Mäkelä was part of the JimJamMurMur quartet, along with Johanna Iivanainen, Mia Simanainen, and Jenny Robson. The a cappella group won the ensemble competition at the Tampereen Sävel vocal festival in 2003.

Mäkelä's current band is a chamber-jazz trio featuring Juho Kivivuori on bass and Tuomo Dahlblom on guitar. Dahlblom is also part of Mäkelä's another group, which now performs in Kerava. Both Dahlblom and the other guitarist of the band, Sami Linna, have performed at the festival before, with Linna being part of Jari Perkiömäki's ensemble.
