Jazz Finland Live

UMO and vocalist Susanna Lukkarinen tackle some classics associated with Ella Fitzgerald.

Ella Fitzgerald is without a doubt the most important female vocalist in the history of jazz. Fitzgerald often recorded with a big band and at this concert vocal virtuoso Susanna Lukkarinen gets together with UMO to perform a selection of these songs.

It’s Only a Paper Moon, Cheek to Cheek and Lullaby of Broadway are among the songs interpreted by the velvet-piped member of the Club For Five vocal ensemble. Vellu Halkosalmi conducts UMO and wrote some of the evening’s arrangements, too.

Tickets from Ticketmaster 28 € / 24 € / 14 €, incl. service fee.

Afrojazz Club ends a successful spring season with two spectacular acts: Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble and Afrojazz Quintet feat. Sam Huber. Special guest speaker is Mr Pekka Haavisto, member of parliament (the Greens) and the foreign minister’s special representative for African Crises.

HELSINKI-COTONOU ENSEMBLE
Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble was born in 2012 when three Finnish musicians traveled to Benin, intending to learn voodoo rhythms, to form a band and to make an album. All this and more happened - now almost four years later they have released two critically acclaimed albums and toured in six countries. Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble's music is a disarming mix of jazz, funk, afrobeat and traditional voodoo (vodoun) rhythms, composed by guitarist Janne Halonen and singer-percussionist Noël Saïzonou.
