Organised for the first time, the one-day festival Megakupla presents the freshest players of the Finnish jazz scene! Six acts, four hours of music. What will happen when two bands take the stage at the same time for 45 minutes?
"The idea is to create an avalanche of music, an uninterrupted flow that carries through the night with each band merging into a continuum that highlights rather than smooths away their original characteristics," describes Mikko Sarvanne of Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company and Beibi P.
Other acts include the tender bossa group Nossa Bossa; Finland's finest organ trio, Buba Wii Aa; saxophonist Pauli Lyytinen whose newest album Machinery came out a few months ago; vocal group Signe who interpret the poems of Sappho; and the virtuoso guitarist Raoul Björkenheim. Who will meet whom on the stage? Prepare yourself for a night of surprises and exhilaration.
The cherry on the cake will be a special performance entitled Tapetit kaatuu päälle (The Tapestry is Falling on Me), featuring a jazz trio and three dancers.

Summer Jazz Club: Alexi Tuomarila Lithium & Kae-nuu,Poppari, jyväskylä24.5. At 21:00
The monthly Summer Jazz Club concert series, taking place at Jyväskylä’s jazziest bar Poppari, kicks off on Tuesday 24 May. The first edition of 2016 will combine experienced talent and youthful joy of playing when the stage is taken by the internationally recognised pianist Alexi Tuomarila and the young, local musicians of Kae-nuu. Tuomarila will introduce his brand new act, Alexi Tuomarila Lithium: a trio composed of up-and-coming stars bassist Joonas Tuuri and drummer Jonne Taavitsainen.
A newly started group, Alexi Tuomarila Lithium, is about seemingly opposite things: determination, youthful zeal and mature refinement. A union of one established artist and two gifted young players, Lithium draws from a range of genres for an outcome that sounds fresh, original and big.
Alexi Tuomarila - Piano
Joonas Tuuri - Double bass
Jonne Taavitsainen - Drums
Two unlikely bedfellows, free jazz and folk music, meet in the hands of Kae-nuu, a young trio that borrows their name from their home region, Kainuu, located in Central Finland. Saxophonist Kalle Keränen and double bassist Vesa Pisto hail from Paltamo; while drummer Keijo Koskenharju comes further north, from Suomussalmi. Today, the group is based in Jyväskylä but the home region continues to be a major source of inspiration for the trio. Kae-nuu was built around the aspiration to give a voice to the local mentality. Their debut album came out in 2015, and they are currently working on the sophomore.
Kalle Keränen - Sax
Vesa Pisto - Double bass
Keijo Koskenharju - Drums
