Jyväskylä Big Band feat. Elena Mindru (RO) & Tuomas J. Turunen: Evening in Romania
At 18:00 - 20:30
Tickets 15 / 10 €

Jyväskylä Big Band joins forces with Elena Mîndru and her spouse Tuomas J. Turunen on a trip to Romanian soundscapes. This is the second concert for JBB to present new music this year. The same line-up will also be touring Romania on 15 – 25 September, seeing them give a show at the fine Bucharest Jazz Festival, among others.

Romanian vocalist Elena Mîndru followed her studies to Finland in 2013 and has ever since performed not only in her two home countries but around the globe. In 2014, she released an album Evening in Romania, and some of the songs of the album will be heard in the concert in big band versions.

Pianist, composer, arranger and PhD student at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, Tuomas J. Turunen is a familiar face from a number of Finnish outfits, including Mindru’s ensembles, Aili Ikonen Tribute to Ella and Fifth Avenue. Turunen has composed a new folk music -inspired piece, entitled “Folkloric Moods”, specifically for the show with JBB.
