Laihonen / Pekkola / Thorman (SWE)

Drummer Simo Laihonen and saxophonist Sami Pekkola are known as active musicians in their own fields. After playing a handful of duo concerts together, the pair started taking the idea of a duo group more seriously and working on some material together. Earlier focus on steadier build-ups and longer arches has been replaced by spontaneous, sporadic overflow of energy in the manner of old-school free jazz. Now Swedish double bassist Patric Thorman joins the game brining in some fresh drive from the other side of the Gulf of Bothnia. His unconditional devotion to his own musical style has made him a sought-after name in Stockholm’s jazz circles.

Simo Laihonen – drums
Sami Pekkola – sax
Patric Thorman – double bass

Kemppainen / Suominen / Tiheäsalo / Tolvi / Tolvi

The idea of this group had been ripening for a long time before finally coming true. We are talking about a dream team built around the group Sir Trio, who have found their inspiration from Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time era. This five-piece is composed of Finnish free jazz veterans with reinforcement from the field of psychedelia in the person of Jari Suominen of the band Jarse. Wear your craziest dance shoes for this occasion, otherwise this cocktail of free jazz and psychedelia will knock you off your feet!

Tero Kemppainen – bass guitar
Jari Suominen – electric guitar
Topias Tiheäsalo – electric guitar
Antti Tolvi – electric bass
Jaakko Tolvi – drums

The jazz band is coming to Jyväskylä to record their new album and the audience in Poppari will be the first to hear the new music.

Pianist and composer Marek Walarowski teaches composition in Academy of Music in Katowice and he is co-working with Jazz institutes at universities in Seattle and Lousville. He is active in the field of classical music, as well, many of his works having been played by Silesian Philharmony. Performance of the saxophonist Wojciech Lichtański is touching as a snake charmer's for listeners, despite his young age. Rhythm section consists of Czech bass player Lukáš Mužík, who is leading the jazz department in Folk Conservatory of Ostrava, and well the established drummer Miroslaw Sitkowski, who collaborates with US and Polish top-jazzmans. We can expect precise techniques and imaginative jazz with hints of classical music from these gents.
