Composer, arranger and chief conductor of the legendary hybrid orchestra Metropole Orkest Jules Buckley is one of the world’s most sought-after genre alchemists. He grew up listening to his father’s “really cool” record collection: “Music was playing all the time.”
In this evening’s concert, Buckley cooks up the music of his idol Quincy Jones as served by the HPO and UMO, featuring dazzling soloists.

SM4, or the Söderbacka-Matikainen Quartet, is a band that brings a breath of fresh air to its listeners. At the core of SM4 with David Lyttle & Joonatan Rautio quartet are guitarist Martin Söderbacka and double bassist Eevalotta Matikainen. Joining them on stage are saxophonist Joonatan Rautio and Irish drum artist David Lyttle. At the main concert of Hyrynsalmi Jazz Days, with the SM4 band, we will hear soulful interpretations by singer Charlotta Kerbs of jazz standards and more.

Afterwork Art is a monthly event held on the first Friday of each month at the Cultural Center Kalevan Navetta in Seinäjoki. The event aims to attract the audience to the world of culture and culinary experiences. The program for the event includes an evening brunch at the Äärellä restaurant, free entry to the Seinäjoki Art Hall, and monthly changing art and cultural programs.
On Friday, March 1, as part of the Afterwork Art event, the Ylistaron Kaukolankylä Jazz Club will contribute to the program. In the Hugo Hall at 7:00 PM, they will present melodic and primal free improvisational jazz performed by some of the top professionals in Finland. The eagerly awaited Jorma Tapio & Kaski trio will be featured. The trio has gone through various transformations in its history. "Kaski" refers to national romanticism and a hardworking, fearless people. The dynamics of the Kaski trio range from powerful energy bursts to whispers, and the ensemble's sound palette is extensive, thanks to the different wind instruments played by Jorma Tapio.
For the Seinäjoki gig, Kaski will be joined by guitarist Timo Kämäräinen, known perhaps best for his rock-oriented ventures. He excels in various styles of expression, ranging from delicate guitarism to powerful shredding. He navigates smoothly between the worlds of rock and jazz.

On the opening weekend of the Turku Jazz Festival, Tanssiteatteri Sivuun Ensemble invites the public to a ritualistic nature chapel to experience emotions related to the environmental crisis. Musicians, dancers and scientists transport the viewer from the pain and fear of our era to hope and trust. Award-winning choreographer Ninni Perko’s frantic, sensitive, sacred rite of passage visualizes new possibilities and worlds, building bridges to the future.
The music of Silentopia was composed together by Jarmo Saari, Anni Elif and Pauli Lyytinen. The ensemble’s genre distribution runs from chamber music through free jazz to electroacoustic. Paavo Malmberg, the sound designer of the piece, is the band’s fourth member.
The duration of the show is approx. 2 hours, including an intermission.
